Interlibrary loan (abbreviated ILL and sometimes called OuterLibrary Loan) is the process of sharing library materials between libraries or library systems. It allows our patrons to borrow library materials from across the United States that are not available in our LINKcat system.
Please note: All Interlibrary Loan (ILL) requests must be picked up and returned to a bookmobile stop. If it is your preference to use a library location as your pick up and return site, please make your ILL request from that library. For a list of the public libraries in Dane County, please click here.
Interlibrary loan is available to any person with a valid library card from any South Central Library System public library. To avoid delays, always check LINKcat, the Library's catalog, to see if we own the item before submitting interlibrary loan requests. Due to nationally accepted interlibrary loan protocols, we cannot obtain items that are less than four months old (i.e. items published within the last four months are not available through ILL).
