In 2009, Madison Community Foundation provided $25,000 to the Dane County Library Service to enhance its large print collections over the next three years. These collections are used primarily to serve older readers who visit senior centers around the county and/or who reside in senior housing, assisted living centers or nursing homes in Dane County. The initial focus will be to build the non-fiction collection a challenge given the relatively few non-fiction titles that are reproduced in large print. Future years will bring the attention to developing a collection of fiction titles suitable for book discussion groups and the purchase of these titles in quantities sufficient to support these groups.
We look forward to the challenge that accompanies this grant to find and build community support for the librarys outreach program, to develop partnerships with organizations with similar service goals, and, ultimately, to raise additional funds to continue to build all facets of the outreach collection.
You can follow activities and developments of this collection on the Outreach blog
As titles are added to the collection, they will be listed here.
